Let's talk about a Daily Dose of Sunshine 🌤️ or Morning Comes to Psychiatric Wards Too—because this show will make you cry and also think a lot about mental health. This drama caught my attention right away because it’s set in a psychiatric hospital, and I was curious about how it would portray mental health.


The title Morning Comes to the Psychiatric Ward might sound unusual at first. Psychiatric wards are often seen as dark, isolating places, filled with suffering and stigma. But this drama challenges that perception. The idea of "morning" symbolizes new beginnings, light, and hope. It reminds us that even in the hardest times, healing is possible, and better days can come.


The story revolves around Jung Da Eun, a nurse who struggles with her own emotional challenges. Through her story, the drama delivers a profound message: self-care; especially for those who dedicate their lives caring for others.

The Struggle with Denial

The story begins when a tragedy involving one of Da Eun's patients sends her into a downward spiral. Overwhelmed by the grief and guilt, she develops depression and copes by throwing herself into work, refusing to take breaks, and insisting on handling everything herself. She doesn’t let her colleagues assist her with patient care, believing she must shoulder the responsibility alone.


However, her condition worsens when she developed dissociative amnesia. This turning point is a wake-up call for Da Eun, as she realizes the extent of her denial. This pattern of denial mirrors what many of us experience. Instead of addressing our emotions, we distract ourselves, hoping the feelings will fade. But emotions don’t simply disappear they build up, and eventually demand to be felt.

Even after being admitted to the psychiatric ward, Da Eun remains in denial — refusing medication and lying during consultations. As a psychiatric nurse, she knows exactly what to say to appear “fine” and secure an early discharge. She believes that her profession makes her immune to emotional struggles. Yet, she must confront the reality that, despite her expertise, she is now a patient like everyone else.

The Power of Acceptance

As the drama unfolds, Da Eun begins to recognize her own struggles and takes small but meaningful steps toward healing🌱. However, the turning point in her journey isn’t an immediate realization but a breaking point. For so long, she has clung to the belief that, as a nurse, she shouldn’t be struggling—that her role demands strength, resilience, and the ability to shoulder burdens without becoming one herself. The relentless expectation becomes unbearable, leading to a moment of despair where she attempts suicide by stepping into oncoming traffic. Though it feels like a split second to her, she actually attempts it twice. This pivotal moment forces her to confront a hard truth: her role as a nurse does not make her immune to emotional pain, and she has been the only one denying her own struggles.

Da Eun’s journey highlights an important truth: self-care isn’t optional. However, even as she starts healing, she faces external stigma, particularly from her patients’ families, who question her ability to care for others. Their mistrust feeds her own self-doubt, leaving her torn between her passion for nursing and the fear about being unfit for the role.

  • Do what brings you joy: Read a long-postponed book, watch an engaging drama (Daily Dose of Sunshine is a good one!), or indulge in activities that helps you unwind and reconnect with yourself.
